WV DHHR COVID-19 Update - 30 November 2020

Hi everyone! So nice of you to drop in. If you are quarantined in your home, do you see some new habits that you are having?

Here's a few of mine: I wear dresses way more often! They are comfortable, and help me appear pulled together should I have to open the door for something. I am getting my house completely cleaned.  And nearly every day I treat myself with HIGH TEA,  You know great grandma's teapot that came from France with her grandparents? I use that one, and some of the other sets I have. All served with either scones, or tea biscuits. So good. They come from my new trend in baking goodies.  that comes from  watching the British cooking and baking shows on Prime Video. Love them! But you aren't here for recipes right now, I know. So here's your update on COVID-19 in West Virginia.

As always please remember to wear a mask that covers both your nose and your mouth. Practice social distancing. Practice frequent handwashing. Use soap and water. If none are available you nay use hand sanitizer. Do not congregate with groups.

And that's it for today folks! Have a great Monday. Tomorrow will be better!

WV DHHR COVID-19 UPDATE - 29 November 2020

Happy Sunday to all. Well, tomorrow is the last day of November. It seems crazy that it is so late in the year already! I don't know when the calendar has just spun on my desk! Wasn't I just complaining that neither of us got an Easter basket? (Easter Bunny was so tired he didn't leave one when he got to our house, with only 2 old folks within.) Let's make a big pact right now. Let's all slow done and really live for and enjoy the Christmas Season, starting on December 1st. Ok? Be watching for some new stuff!

So here is the Update:

                                                            Tested       Positive                            Deaths

WV                                    1,122,438                 46,997 (up 1,152)            729 (up 11)

Greenbrier Co.                20,698                       374 (up 2)                        7 (no change)

Monroe Co.                      9,427                        338 (up 1)                         10 (no change)

As you can see, the state overall has had 46,997 COVID-19 related deaths thus far.    We can expect that total to continue to rise, according to Dr. Fauci, executive director of the NIAID< and the Presidential Advisor. We are to expect even more cases AFTER inoculations begin. And that we can even expect more mutations, other than just to minks (there was evolutionary change in the EU that infected minks). Please follow the advice below to help stop the virus.

PLEASE: remember to wear a mask when leaving home. Make sure it covers both the nose and the mouth. NOTE: Please remember to put a mask on your little ones. Practice social distancing EVERYWHERE. That means 6-feet between you and the next person. Practice frequent handwashing with soap and water. If running water is unavailable, you may use hand sanitizer, or you can wear gloves (disposable medical grade gloves). Do not congregate in a group meeting. If it is impossible to avoid contact with others, DO NOT ATTEND. This includes holidays, reunions, and church. Learn to use SKYPE or one of the other media sites that can hold a virtual meeting for you, Christmas is coming, get everyone excited to "see" everyone else via the media you choose. See if your church will be doing something similar for their Sunday's and Wednesday nights events. Or watch a televised preaching on television. There are many good ministers to listen to. And remember to pray for our nation, those that rule over us (President, etc.) Pray for our people who are out on the streets daily (policemen and women; firemen and women; First Responders, men and women, and the doctors and nurses who are on the front lines. They are the real heroes at this time.

I'll be back tomorrow with the latest update! Have a wonderful Sunday, everyone!

WV DHHR COVID-19 UPDATE - 28 November 2020

Hello, everyone. I hope you are all having a pleasant Saturday. We have sunshine here in the valley.  I hope it lasts a little while. Everything looks better in sunshine!

Well, here is the latest update , and it's not pretty. Overall, the state has 799 new cases of COVID_19. 12 of those are in Greenbrier County, alone. And Monroe County adds another 6 new cases. So, here we go....

                                       Tested                                Positive                                            Deaths

As always, REMEMBER to wear a mask whenever you leave your home. And practice Social Distancing. Practice frequent handwashing. If you have broken skin on your hands, be sure to wear gloves as well. This will prevent you from introducing the virus to your broken skin. Avoid groups of people. That means during the holidays as well. Set up a virtual visit for your family. There are several platforms you can use. Be sure to check them out, and set up your virtual visit in advance!

Have a beautiful Saturday everyone! God Bless!

WV DHHR COVID-19 UPDATE - 25 November 2020

Hello friends. I am back from my therapy. I want to thank everyone for the many prayers sent up for me, and for the kind messages, urging me to keep up the good fight. I  guess I can tell you now, I have had a problem with getting dizzy, and have had multiple falls over the last 2 months. I underwent a myriad of tests, all of which were negative. Finally, my doctor sent me to see a Physical Therapist, trained in a "disorder" known as HBBV. It has to do with the tiny crystals found in your inner ear, moving toward the outer canals. When this happens, you not only get dizzy and fall, but the problem is diagnosed with a series of maneuvers that cause your eyes to travel around the orbit a bit. It was a simple diagnosis. It was also a very simple treatment to correct the problem. It may never bother me again, or it could come back again. We'll just have to wait and see.

Anyway, I am feeling fine (as a frogs hair!). And back to my old self! Yeah!

Okay, for today's update:

                                        Tested                Positive                            Deaths

WV                            1,063,597                   43,050 (up 967)            695 9up 13)

Greenbrier Co.         19,194                        336 (up 1)                    7 (up 1)

Monroe Co.               9,010                         321 (up 8)                     10

Please remember to wear a mask when leaving your home. Make sure it covers both your nose and your mouth. Practice social distancing. And practice frequent handwashing both away from home, and at home. If you, and everyone else, will follow these simple guidelines, we can eliminate the problem.

I wish each of you a blessed Thanksgiving tomorrow. Take time to recount your blessings. Have dinner at home. If you do plan on a large dinner with lots of guests, please wear a mask! And please ask everyone attending to wear a mask. If you're home alone, then do a video call with everyone! And stay safe!

I'll be back tomorrow! Have a great evening!

WV DHHR COVID-19 UPDATE - 24 November 2020

Hi everyone. I'm sorry I was able to post yesterday. I had a rough day, and really didn't have time to post. So I'll post today, with updates as listed. So here goes:

                                Tested                        Positive                        Deaths

WV                        1,048,077                42,083 (up 969)                685 (up 15)

Greenbrier Co.    18,933                       335 (up 17)                      6

Monroe Co.          8,902                        313 (up 12)                       10

Remember: Wear a mask when out in public. Make sure it covers both nose and mouth. Toss disposable masks after one use. Launder cloth masks after one use in warm water and line dry. Do not use softener. Fabric softener can clog air moving into your mask and cause you to have an hypoxia incident. (This is where you are not getting sufficient air flow and you are rebreathing air you have already exhaled. Carbon dioxide builds up in your system and you can have hpoxia because of this.) And practice social distancing when out and about!

Be sure to wash your hands frequently in running water with soap. Make sure you wash your hands for at least 20 seconds to get rid of bad germs. You can use hand sanitizer when not near running water and soap, but only then. Hand sanitizer can be very harsh on your skin even after just a few uses. Hand soap has softener built into it. And no, there is difference in hand soap. (No brand is better than another one. Just get those germ pickers washed frequently.

So that's all for now. I'll be near my keyboard for a little while yet. I've got some Bible study due. Everyone have a great Tuesday! Remember to thank God for being here! And for all your Blessings!

Take care everyone!

WV DHHR COVID-19 UPDATE - 18 November 2020

Short and to the point today, the following is the update for Wednesday, 18 November 2020:

                                        Tested                Positive                        Deaths

WV                                 955,928              36,277 (up 953)            612 (up 14)

Greenbrier Co.             17,141                272 (up 4)                      6

Monroe Co.                   7,956                  284 (up 3)                      8

PLEASE REMEMBER: wear a mask that covers your mouth and your nose each time you leave the house. Make sure to throw away paper masks after every use. Launder fabric masks after each use. Be sure not to use fabric softener or dryer sheets when laundering as these can clog up microscopic air holes that allow you to breathe in them.  Practice social distancing.  Be sure to do frequent handwashing for 20-seconds with running water and soap. Hand sainitizer should be used only when soap and water are unavailable. Wear disposable gloves if you have open cuts, scrapes, cracks, or hangnails, as these areas can allow pathogens to enter your blood stream if not protected.

And that's all for now. Thank you for those of you who prayed for me. I had an MRI on Saturday, and it didn't show what is the cause of my problem. I go on this Friday for a doppler study, and start vertigo therapy on Monday. I ask that you continue to pray for me. I do appreciate it.

Today is Wednesday, the middle of the work week! So have a pleasant day today. And Friday is coming! God bless us every one!

A Long Awaited Feathered Friend - 16 November 2020

I just wanted to show off my DH's dream come to life! He has long wanted an African Grey Parrot. The cost was just way too much for us to buy one. So, my DH began by getting online and haunting some parrot forums. He was in one, and saw someone who was looking for a loving home for a parrot. Just the parrot that he had long wanted.

After going through a vetting, DH was finally approved for the adoption. He drove 4-1/2 hours each way yesterday. He came home late last night with "Pinocchio". He is so proud of the little fellow. Here he is!

Here he is: Pinocchio!

He is an African Grey Parrot. He has grey feathers. He does have a white eye mask. He is about 7-1/2 inches tall (not counting tail feathers). He chirps so far, when he is excited or happy. He seems to prefer my voice over DH's, but I'll be leaving DH to do his magic on Pinocchio! LOL

He has a lovely tall cage, as you can see part of it here. He has some toys, but we will be getting him more, especially for foraging, and puzzle solving, which these birds love.

DH is financing the care and feeding of Pinocchio by eliminating his cigarette cost! (Who wouldn't be happy about that?)

Here's wishing your dreams come true!

Our pretty boy. And DH's dream come true!

WV DHHR COVID-19 UPDATE - 16 November 2020

Hello my friends, just a quick note for everyone. I hope this finds you all doing well on this beautiful Monday morning! We have sunshine here, and in our hearts this morning. You know, God is good, even when things seem down, depressing, and we don't think we can go on. He makes it all okay. We have so much to be thankful for, even when Satan whispers in our ear, "But a loving God wouldn't allow you to go through this...". We can turn a deaf ear to Satan, and praise God from the valley's as well as the mountaintop. Did you know that sets us apart from the world? Let's all praise Him this morning!

The stats aren't looking so good. West Virginia is seeing over 800 new COVID-19 cases a day! Mortality continues to climb. Let me give you this view of it all:

                                            Tested            Positive                    Deaths

WV                                934,835            34,460 (up 801)           585 (up 3)

Greenbrier Co.            16,841               260 (up 8)                    6

Monroe Co.                   7,804                273 (up 2)                    8

PLEASE remember to wear a mask when leaving home. Make sure it covers both your mouth and your nose. Please throw away paper masks after each use, and wash cloth ones after each use. Do not use laundry softener or dryer sheets when laundering the cloth ones. These can clog air movement through fabric fibers and can cause hypoxia, which is not a good thing.  Practice social distancing of 6-feet between you and the next person. Practice frequent handwashing. Remember to use running water and soap. Wash your hands for at least 20-seconds, or recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Use a good hand moisturizer to prevent chapping during the winter months. Use disposable gloves if your hands have any injuries (hangnails, paper cuts, chapped, or cracked skin.) Do not congregate with groups (no going to the movies, crowded restaurants, clubs, or church).

Have great Monday every one! God bless and keep you.
