Today in Christian History - September 26th

The following is taken from Christianity Today:

September 26

September 26, 1460: Pope Pius II assembles European leaders, then delivers a three-hour sermon to inspire them to launch a new crusade against the Turks. The speech works, but then another speaker, Cardinal Bessarion, adds a three-hour sermon of his own. After six hours of preaching, the European princes lose all interest in the cause; they never mount the called-for crusade.

September 26, 1897: Charles C. Overton, a Sunday school superintendent at Brighton Chapel, Staten Island, spontaneously promotes the idea of a Christian flag. The Rally Day speaker hadn't shown up, so Overton gave an extemporaneous address on Christian meanings for the elements of the American flag. The red, white, and blue cross flag Overton later helped devise was first sewn around 1907 and continues to be used in some churches.

Christian History for September 25th

This is shared from Christianity Today.

September 25

September 25, 1534: Pope Clement VII dies. An unpopular pope, Clement failed to halt Luther's reformation or to implement his own reforms in the Catholic church. Henry VIII asked Clement VII to annul his marriage with Catherine of Aragon. The pope's reluctance led to Henry VIII's break from Catholicism (see issue 48: Thomas Cranmer).

September 25, 1555: The Peace of Augsburg is signed after the defeat of Emperor Charles V's forces by Protestant princes in Germany (1552). The official recognition of the Lutheran church in Germany, the agreement signified the dissolution of both political unity in Germany and the medieval unity of Christendom.

September 25, 1789: Congress amends The U.S. Constitution to prohibit establishment of a state church or governmental interference with the free exercise of religion.

September 25, 1872: Peter Cartwright, an indefatigable Methodist circuit rider, dies at age 97. Though he was characterized as rough, uneducated, and eccentric, his drive and physical stamina enabled him to preach throughout midwestern frontiers for 70 years (see issue 45: Camp Meetings & Circuit Riders).

As you can see, the tolls are definitely slowing down. Perhaps we are about to see a new resurgence as the medical community has suggested. For now, we need to thank God for this respite, and to pray it will go away completely!

Please, remember to wear a mask if you are leaving home. If needed, please wear disposable gloves. Always practice frequent hand washing. And practice social distancing when in public.

Many thank you's again for your show of support!

wV DHHR COVID-19 UPDATE 09/23/20

Hello, one and all. Today we are seeing somewhat of a slowdown, in the State and also in the two Counties we are following so closely. There were only 2 deaths between yesterday and today, and none in either of the two Counties. So, without further ado, here is the UPDATE:

I want to personally thank those who prayed when I asked. No further falls at this time. (If it happens again, I will see my doctor early.) I am very sore though. That will last a few days I am sure.  But thank you for your prayers.

We are enjoying the beginning of fall/autumn here. Leaves are just now beginning to turn colors. And in the morning, we get up and have to turn a little heat on, just to take the tip of the cold off the rooms. I love this time of year. It's when I get to see God's amazing palette here in the mountains! And I also know my favorite holiday is coming soon! CHRISTMAS! (Before my youngest left the nest,  she would start fussing at me in June or July, because I absolutely LOVE Christmas. And EVERYTHING to do with it! So I held back as long as I possibly could and I started singing Christmas Carols, Songs, and Christmas Hymns. She said it drove her CRAZY.) And Yes! I am already singing carols! Deck The Halls just finished!

Thanks everyone. And you all have an amazing Wednesday evening!

WV DHHR COVID-19 UPDATE 9/22/2020

Hello all. I am having the worst time! Satan is really trying his best to get me down. I had another fall last evening when I was on the phone with my Dad. I am sure it scared him. That's 2 falls in two days! Ugh. I did a bit of crying out, as I hurt so badly. Finally DH came to help me.  Thank the Lord, I was not badly injured. Sore all over, but otherwise, I am unhurt.

We went today and received food give away items. We've never done this before, until a few months ago. and I have nothing bad to say about receiving it. We are living on DH's SS Benefit, so we gladly accept all the help we can receive. Today we received an entire crate of apples! (About a bushel!) I will make applesauce and apple butter out of them, and maybe a few pies, and some stewed. Yum! We also received a bag full of fresh plums! We'll eat them. Or maybe I'll try to make a small batch of plum jelly! There were 2 frozen hens, I'm putting them in the backup freezer, and will turn them into chicken and dumplings when family can finally come to visit! (I miss my sister and my Dad especially!) We also received two quart sized frozen mixed eggs. These will be good for baking, or making French toast or pancakes!  There were 3 bags of chili without beans. Just add beans if wanted, heat in a saucepan and eat! The beef is already in the mix! And 2 quarts of milk! Oh, and 2 loaves of bread. Enough for the two of us to live off of what is here for about 2 weeks if we had to! Seriously! But I do greatly digress. Please forgive me.

WV DHHR Latest COVID-19 Updates

Here's hoping you all had a wonderful weekend, and are raring to go this beautiful Monday morning, September 21, 2020! I apologize for once more falling behind in keeping you posted. I had a nasty fall, in the bathroom (isn't there a statistic somewhere stating 95% of Senior falls happen in the bathroom?) Yep. And it wasn't pretty. My lip hip is bruised pretty bad, and I hurt especially in my shoulders, knees and hands, where I took the most of the fall. So why did I fall? Ohhh, I was reaching to pick up a piece of clothing that had fallen from the basket! Such a simple thing! Thankfully, DH was here to boost my morale. (I cried because he didn't hear me fall. If you knew what a big woman I am, you'd wonder why on earth he didn't hear such a fall. But, oh, well. ) I really am okay. Just gonna take a few days to get the bruising and soreness to get away!😕😕😕😕

So, without further adieu, let's get started here, shall we?

Crafting

Hello one and all! I'd like to share what I am doing right now... I am currently making a Grimoire to auction on eBay when finished. It will make a great gift or display piece for Halloween.

'Some of you may ask, what is a Grimoire?'

Wikipedia describes one as:

grimoire (/ɡrɪmˈwɑːr/ grim-WAHR) (also known as a "book of spells") is a textbook of magic, typically including instructions on how to create magical objects like talismans and amulets, how to perform magical spellscharms and divination, and how to summon or invoke supernatural entities such as angelsspiritsdeities and demons.[1] In many cases, the books themselves are believed to be imbued with magical powers, although in many cultures, other sacred texts that are not grimoires (such as the Bible) have been believed to have supernatural properties intrinsically. The only contents found in a grimoire would be information on spells, rituals, the preparation of magical tools, and lists of ingredients and their magical correspondence.[2][unreliable source?] In this manner, while all books on magic could be thought of as grimoires, not all magical books should be thought of as grimoires.[3]"

There are many pictures of Grimoire's. Here are but a few:

These are but a very few of Grimoire covers. The interiors contain anything from witches spells to healing with herbs and spices. You will see that some deal with the black arts and witchcraft, but they don't all. Some are used for evil, and some are just for fun and learning to heal (my daughter's Grimoire was of the last.

At any rate, so this one I am working on is actually made considering it could be used for a Halloween decoration! Put it next to that scary tabletop witch! Or next to that wicked punch you've concocted, and opened to a spell for making poisoned drinks!

Once I have it finished, I will put it on eBay, and I ask that you will go and look at it! Or consider buying it. It will make a bang up good Halloween decoration!

Let us as a nation understand that to change something in the White House if we desire so, then we must pray for it. WV DHHR Reports Covid-19 Update

Hello everyone, on this beautiful Lord's Day! I hope all are doing well. My heartfelt sympathies go out to my cousin today. She lost her husband this week. We are praying for you all!

And I want to apologize for my week long absence. I don't know what I had, but I got up from bed every day, and spent the whole day in the rocker. Sick at my stomach at times, and having weird electrical disturbances (I don't know how else to describe them!) I leaned against my left side on the rocker and suddenly that whole side spasmed. DH finally got to see it happen. Definitely something new! But all is better now, and I will try not to miss any further days! And with no further business, here we go!
