Increased moisture causes morel mushrooms to thrive


(Monroe County, W.Va.) WVVA - West Virginia is a good place to find morel mushrooms. Six varieties of morels grow in West Virginia's forests.
In West Virginia there is usually a two month window between mid-April and mid-May to find these wild mushrooms.
But this year David Cole said he found his first morel mushroom on March 26. Cole has been foraging for morel mushrooms in the mountains of Monroe County his whole life.
