BLUEFIELD, W.Va. (WVVA) - Following Governor Jim Justice's announcement that schools can open at earliest September 8, 2020, the W.Va. Dept. of Education released guidance for the 2020-21 school year.
On the WVDE website, there's a toolkit that serves as a resource not only for teachers and administrators, but students and parents.
On the website, several scenarios for re-opening the school including in-person and/or blended learning, using existing virtual options, or remote learning.
In-person and/or blended instruction is designed to "create options for counties to make local decisions that best meet the needs of their students."
As well as blended instruction, the site also outlines remote learning and other virtual options.
The site also mandates that districts have to be ready to conduct the school year entirely remotely if need be.
The WVDE recognizes the fluidity of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The outbreak of COVID-19 and the subsequent national and state emergencies have shed a glaring light on critical issues facing children and families,” said West Virginia Superintendent of Schools W. Clayton Burch. “Child well-being, equity and access to technology and the achievement gap will be the main focus of our work because they are important aspects of everything we do. Our efforts will continue as we work with our partners and counties to plan and execute a safe and efficient re-entry.”
