October Photo A Day Challenge

The 16th....

...Something You Wrote....

My diary entry for today.

Tumbling Through Tuesday....

Well, I am definitely feeling better than I have been!

On Sunday I threw my back out, and have been "getting by". But the pain has dissipated, and I am moving along!

Texican and I started the day we always do…. With coffee and tea at the kitchen table. I had a little yogurt with mine for breakfast.

Then it was time to get down to business.

I got half of Mom’s Christmas book indexed today. [Less than 100 pages yet to go.]

I broke for lunch, eating 1-1/2 cups of pinto beans [left over from night before last].

Then back to work, well….. after a short nap back to work!

Then I got busy and fixed a decent dinner.

I made meatballs for dh and dd.

Fixed spaghetti with sauce, and canned peas, and sliced a loaf of artisanal Italian bread from the bakery [so good!].

So… what were my stats?

Calories: 1,220            [-220]

Carbs: 229g                 [+31]

Fats: 9g                       [-39]

Protein: 58g               [+4]

Sodium: 2,375mg       [+875]

Not too shabby! And a lot better than yesterday!

My stack of crocheted snowflakes for my Christmas tree has grown to 24, about ¼ of the number I want to get done. I need about 60-75 for the tree, and another 25-30 or so for my Christmas card project. When I complete the snowflakes, I’ll start on the crocheted “icicles” I want to add to the tree. I am absolutely so thrilled and excited over the prospect of having a real tree this year! It’s been 8 years since my last live tree!!! I can’t wait!!!

Well, I’m off for the evening. I’m still watching Upstairs Downstairs on Netflix. [I am into season 5 now! It’s so addictive!]

Sipping on a lovely blackberry tea, and have my steel crochet hook at the ready, with my #10 bedspread cotton.

Let’s meet back here tomorrow evening after dh and I get back from the marketing. We’ll review the menu for the upcoming week, and discuss any bargains we might have found.

Until then… have a wonderful evening friends!

Back From A Break

We took a little time for ourselves over the weekend, and didn’t do any blogging. Unfortunately, we also slipped. Saturday, Sunday AND today! You know what I mean… fallen off the wagon [i.e. overate!]. But we will be back on track from this point on!

I went to bed at midnight last night with a pain pill. I pulled something in my back and was in quite a bit of pain. I awoke at 6 this morning with a killer migraine, and took some Tylenol and went back to bed. DH woke me up at 12:30 [noon] to make sure I was alright! Yes…. I slept 12 ½ hours! I don’t know what’s got into me! I’ve been sleeping super long hours lately!

Since I slept hours past breakfast…. I ate lunch about 1:30. I had….

….bean and cheese taquitos with picante sauce [I picked up picante instead of salsa at the store last week….hate that!] Still, it made for a decent lunch.

At dinner, I baked a complete bag of Great Value Frozen Buttermilk Biscuits. I added deli sliced ham and cheese slices for dh and dd’s dinner. And for my own,

I scrambled a couple of eggs and topped that with cheese. Unfortunately, these biscuits are high in everything, which means I went over my limits on just about everything!

Calories: 1,796            [+356]
Carbs: 188g                 [-10]
Fats: 93g                     [+45]
Protein: 64g               [+10]
Sodium: 4,115mg       [+2,615]

Yeah… not a pretty sight is it? But I keep plugging along.

How are you doing? Sticking your to your plan okay? [It would be good to think at least one of us is!]

I didn’t work on my crocheting any last night because my back hurt so badly. And today… well. today has just been a lost cause. Although I did manage to get a little bit of laundry done [last load is in the dryer now].

So… nothing new to show you. But I’m about to put my feet up, get a cold drink, and watch the next episode in Upstairs Downstairs on Netflix, and hope to get a couple more snowflakes completed for Christmas this evening.

What’s on your needles this evening?

Let’s plan on meeting back here tomorrow evening. I’d like to try some sugar free cocoa. It’s getting pretty cool here in the evening, and I think a steaming mug of cocoa would just about hit the spot!

Until then… have a wonderful evening!

I know…. It’s a sad state when I don’t step on the scale, because I’m afraid of what I’ll see!

Review: Dragon Naturally Speaking Home 12.0

I had high hopes of something new and exciting when receiving this product for review. And perhaps if I had a physical disability I would have enjoyed the product more. Unfortunately, I didn't like it. Not at all.

Maybe it's the fact that I had to go the extra mile with it, with things I type without even thinking about any more.

Like what? When giving the verbal commands in Word document, I would literally have to speak "New paragraph. Indent four spaces. Quote. It is a good day to die. Unquote. said the capital I-n-d-i-a-n punctuation period. "

Now I don't know about everyone else, but I have been typing for nearly 50 years, which means that most things are done instinctual now for me. So, things like punctuation, grammar, spelling, etc. come without any forethought. It took me twenty minutes to get Dragon Naturally Speaking to type what would have taken me 2 if I had typed it myself.

Perhaps it's true that you can't teach an old dog new tricks. Or maybe this trick simply was not for this old dog.

I can truly see where someone with physical disabilities could definitely utilize this more than I. I can also see someone with less in-grained habit using it. Just...not me.

The program functioned exactly as described, and as such I have to give it....
...Five Stars and....

...a Thumbs Up.
